POLICE are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed an indecent assault on a 34-year-old woman in the early hours of Friday, August 21.

The woman was making her way home from a friend's house in Union Street, St Helens, at about 3am after a night out, when the attack happened in Chapel Street.

A man jumped out of an entry, grabbed her from behind and indecently assaulted her. The woman remembers kicking him and being dragged along the street by the shoulders, but she then passed out.

At about 5.25am the victim was spotted in North Road by a passing motorist. Police later searched the area and found the woman's purse with £40 missing from it.

The victim was unable to give a description of her attacker although she said he was wearing a leather jacket.
