ONE of the borough's biggest and oldest residents associations is to hold a celebratory meal to mark its Silver Jubilee.
Members of the Brandlesholme Residents Association are to gather at the Bulls Head in Greenmount in October to mark the 25th birthday in the presence of the Mayor of Bury.
Boasting 1,300 members, the association was formed in June, 1973, by a number of residents keen to promote a greater community spirit and help resolve problems for local home-owners as a when they arise.
Paying £1.50 per household per year, its members can take advantage of a number of schemes including the popular equipment loan scheme. The association has over the years, amassed a collection of car maintenance equipment, garden tools and decorating gear for use by residents.
The association also produces a seasonal newsletter with the management committee currently putting together a special anniversary issue including a host of competitions as well as the usual information articles. Secretary Mrs Jean Crossley of Grantham Drive said: "We are currently finalising the details of the celebratory dinner which will include a free prize draw.
"The association is open to anyone who lives in the Brandlesholme area and its meetings are regularly attended by local councillors who can help resolve problems or concerns."
Anyone who lives in Brandlesholme and is keen to become a member of the residents association should contact Mrs Crossley on 0161 764 8254.
