TWO men escaped with the contents of a service station till after threatening the female cashier with a knife.

The men walked in to the Elf Service Station on Piele Road, Haydock, posing as customers, and when the cashier opened the till one walked round the counter, pulled out a knife.

The two men then escaped with the contents of the till and police believe they escaped in a red Ford Escort.

A police spokesman said a witness has come forward with information, but they believe that other people on the forecourt at the time of the robbery may be able to help the further.

The man with the knife is described as white, mid-30s, 5ft 9in tall, with a stocky build and black, straight hair with a fringe. He was wearing a black anorak type jacket and dark trousers.

The second man is described as white, aged between 18 and early 20s, 5ft 7in tall, thin build with light coloured sandy hair. He was wearing a brown anorak type jacket. Both men are described as scruffy.

Anyone with information should contact DC Karen Cummings at St Helens police station on 0151 777 6064, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
