DARWEN Gala Committee would like to thank everybody who supported the town's annual fun day on Saturday, August 15.

The aim of the gala is to provide a forum for local talent, help charities raise money and provide a great day out for townspeople.

Earlier this year, its future was put into doubt after a series of resignations from a number of long-serving key members.

After an appeal in the Lancashire Evening Telegraph new volunteers came forward to help.

The weather was kind on the day and the turnout was excellent even though Blackburn Rovers were playing their first game of the season.

Many charity and community groups reported good takings and a lot of effort was put into designing floats for the parade.

Thankfully, the pensioner and child who fell off their float were attended to quickly and not seriously hurt.

We hope to make next year's event even bigger and better.

Anybody who would like to get involved should ring 01254 774675 for further details.
