CREDITORS were today still trying to trace Burnley Proms organiser Alex Markham as police continued their probe into complaints that artistes at last week's Towneley Park spectacular had not been paid.

The 21-year-old ex-Clitheroe Grammar School student who organised the Last Night at the Proms event and firework spectacular - which featured Blackadder star Tony Robinson, opera diva Sarah Walker and the Philharmonic Festival Orchestra - has not been seen for some days.

And the Stockport-based agency, which is said to be owed many thousands of pounds for supplying the artists for the event, says it is worried about its cash.

Friends have also said they are unable to trace the Worsthorne based entrepreneur who organised a similar event at Clitheroe Castle two years ago.

About 1,000 people paid £17.50 a head for the Towneley concert, which was followed by an £8 marquee dinner and cabaret featuring veteran jazz star George Melly.

Mr Markham is not answering his telephone numbers, one of which has been disconnected.

Police say they are in the early stages of their inquiries.
