STEVE Morgan and Mark Ford are on the road back to fitness following their early-season injuries.

Morgan damaged a knee in the Worthington Cup against Bury and has undergone a cartilage operation, while Ford broke his ankle in the season's opener against Bristol Rovers.

But both have started their rehabilitation with Morgan set to be the first back in contention for a re-call.

"He's fine. He's on the road to recovery now but it could be another four or five weeks. There were no complications. It was just a case of sorting his cartilage out," said Stan Ternent.

And the Burnley boss added: "Fordy is in the gym now. He's still got the pot on but he is doing a lot of body work."

AS well as the Clarets' win over Millwall on Tuesday night, the club was also delighted with the performance of the Turf Moor pitch.

Heavy rain through the afternoon and early evening had led to some supporters calling the club to ask if the game was still on.

But there was never any doubt and despite the weather club officials were delighted that the relaid surface didn't cut up. "We have said all along that the pitch will gradually improve," said director Clive Holt.

Grass growth should continue up to the end of September to give an even thicker covering and the pitch is expected to be at its best in 12 months' time.

POLICE have issued a warning to fans travelling by car to Burnley's game at Reading next Wednesday night.

The dual carriageway which serves the new Madejski Stadium is not yet complete and fans leaving a recent game were subject to one-and-a-half hour delays.

There are also parking restrictions in force around the ground with a tow-away policy in force.

EAMMON Kelly grabbed a brace in Burnley 'A' team's 5-0 win at Morecambe Reserves in the Lancashire League. The other goals came from Alex Kevan, Paul Graham and Phil Eastwood.

The under-18s lost 2-0 to Carlisle in the Football League's North-West Conference.

The youngsters will play in the regional groups until mid-February when they will then be grouped with sides from the Midlands and the North-East according to their finishing position.

FORMER Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Alan Pringle, who had a loan spell at Burnley last season, has joined Unibond League club Hyde United.

NEIL Moore enjoyed some silverware when he was part of the winning team at Burnley's golf day.

The Clarets' defender was playing with the Booth King Partnership team and pipped his successor as Burnley captain, Chris Brass and his TDB colleagues, for first prize.
