ROOFING worker David Farrimond suffered a fractured skull in a mystery incident at Walshaw High School, Burnley.

Mr Farrimond, 21, was found by a colleague bleeding heavily from the ears on the school car park at 10am yesterday .

He was some distance from the building and scaffolding and is not thought to have fallen from the roof.

Earlier he was seen scraping tar from the floor close to where he was found and colleagues believe he must have collapsed and banged his head.

David, of Spring View, Wigan, works for Normam Shawcross Roofing Ltd., of Higher Ince, Wigan.

Mr Shawcross said: "We don't know what happened, it is a complete mystery.

"He was just tidying up the site near to a skip and the next moment the foreman found him collapsed.

"He looked to be in bad way so he got the caretaker to send for an ambulance.''

Mr Shawcross said that in hospital David told his mother that he remembered feeling dizzy and later woke up in hospital.

He said: "We are not treating it as an accident, but as an illness. We just hope that he makes a quick recovery.''

A hospital spokesman described Mr Farrimond's condition today as "comfortable''.
