READING your report (LET, September 11) on people's reactions when they accidentally hit an animal while driving, we'd like to remind motorists that if a female hedgehog is injured, she may well have a litter of helpless hoglets close by.
If these babies are very small, they'll need help to survive. So if you make a note of where you were when you hit the hedgehog the local vet or wildlife hospital may know of local carers who could check for abandoned hoglets.
It would be best of all if everyone drives a little more slowly, then the risk of accidents would reduce and wildlife and humans would benefit.
