POLICE investigating a claim that a baby had been left 'home alone' found the child was being cared for elsewhere, a court heard.

But they did find a cannabis cigarette when they entered the home of Sindy Livesey, 23, of Cherry Street, Blackburn.

Livesey pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis at Blackburn magistrates and given a conditional discharge for 12 months. The court made no order for costs.

Roger Pickles, defending, said Livesey had been out for the evening and found the police on her doorstep on her return.

"The police accused her of leaving a child unattended and she was very angry because she had made arrangements and someone was looking after her child.

"She defended herself and a row erupted. Miss Livesey thought their attitude was out of order and they thought hers was."

Mr Pickles said his client had not taken the drugs with her because she new it was an offence. "Like millions of other people she uses cannabis but she never dreamed someone would end up coming into her home and finding it."
