EAST Lancashire's Chamber of Commerce has made it into the nation's business elite.

The Chamber, which has more than 1,000 members in East Lancashire, has been given accreditation by the British Chambers of Commerce -- a quality stamp of approval achieved by just 30 chambers throughout the UK.

The accreditation followed an extensive assessment of the impact the Clayton-le-Moors based chamber has on the local economy and its membership.

"We have set out to ensure that everything the Chamber does is relevant to our members," said president John Calway.

"This recognition, which in some ways is against the odds because we are smaller than some of the big city chambers, is most welcome.

"It will help us in our goal to make East Lancashire companies competitive both nationally and internationally."

The accreditation certificate was presented by Chris Humphries, the new director general of the British Chambers of Commerce
