MP Janet Anderson resigned her prestigious post as Margaret Beckett's aide after Mrs Beckett failed to give full backing to John Smith's campaign for Labour democracy.
The Rossendale and Darwen MP was a strong supporter of Mr Smith's "One member one vote" proposal and said she planned to spend more time in her constituency.
