DISC parking could be introduced in Colne after a successful scheme in Nelson, according to a Pendle Council report.

But long-stay parking in the borough should continue to be free, the council's service monitoring sub committee will be told today.

A report recommends that charging for long stay parking should not be introduced at present but disc parking in Colne should be considered.

The report also says there will be a shortfall of 88 long stay parking spaces in Nelson once the Morrison's supermarket is built on the Seed Mill site and the former Clayton Street public car park turned over to shoppers.

That will be off-set by a 70-space staff car park under the supermarket.

The report adds: "If no additional long-stay facility is to be provided then these 88 vehicles will have to be parked on-street, thus potentially causing problems for residential streets near to the centre."
