SHOPPERS on the streets of Blackburn and Darwen paused for a poignant two minutes' silence to remember the war dead on Armistice Day.
Blackburn with Darwen Council agreed to back the Royal British Legion's bid to encourage people to join in with the mark of respect.
Maroons were fired from Blackburn and Darwen town halls to mark and end the period of silence and people in both towns stopped what they were doing to take part in the period of reflection.
The poignant silence was also respected in offices and business across East Lancashire as the 80th anniversary of the end of World War One was honoured at 11am.
