Lancashire FA Youth Cup: Burnley Youth 0 Rochdale Youth 2

THE Clarets youth team crashed out of their second Cup competition within a week after losing 2-0 last night at home to Rochdale in the Lancashire FA Youth Cup.

The two teams matched each other for commitment in this game and the Clarets nearly opened the scoring on 25 minutes after Maylett had set up Savage to cross for Collins to fire just wide of the target.

Rochdale gave the Clarets a warning on the half hour mark when a Duffy header forced Callaghan to head off his own line to safety.

Rochdale took the lead two minutes before the break when the lively Taylor was brought down in the area by Robertshaw and Hicks took the kick sending the Clarets keeper the wrong way from the spot.

The Clarets brought on a new strike force in the second period with Berry and Shandran replacing Collins and Clarke and it was Berry who just fired over the bar for the Clarets after good work by Shandran.

Brad Maylett forced Gilks into a fine save after latching onto a Berry through ball, but it was the visitors who killed the game off 10 minutes from time.

A long goal kick from Gilks found Taylor who raced into the area and Clarets defender Savage mistimed his tackle and as in the first half the referee pointed to the spot. Graham Hicks took his second spot kick of the night firing high to the keeper's left and sending Rochdale through to the next round of the competition.

Burnley: McCoy, Savage, Grdiner, Robertshaw, Callaghan, Kevan, Maylett, Kelly, Collins (Berry), Clarke (Shandran), Gregson.
