I READ with disgust about the case recently in which three policemen from Essex were convicted of cruelty to their alsatian dogs.

The method employed by these men was to suspend the dogs by their choker-chains and kick them in the stomach -- actually killing one poor creature by rupturing its liver.

Apparently, an insider in the training establishment in question informed the RSPCA who, in turn, prosecuted these policemen.

The point is, should not these establishments -- for whatever reason they use dogs -- be regularly and mandatorily inspected by the only people who can really spot such practices, namely the RSPCA?

If this had been the case in the establishment at Essex maybe much suffering could have been avoided.
