THREE East Lancashire firms are the toast of the North West after winning energy efficiency awards.
Airtours Holidays, Scapa Group and Wolstenholme International all won accolades in the 1998 Norweb Business Energy Awards.
The awards aim to highlight companies which have used electrical systems to improve efficiency and productivity.
Airtours Holidays won the building service category after installing an environmentally friendly air conditioning system at its telephone call centre in the Globe Mill, Accrington.
Scapa Group of Blackburn won the industrial category after it developed a new product which improves the effectiveness of press felts used in paper-making.
And Wolstenholme International was runner up in the same category.
The Darwen firm increased production capacity by 30 per cent and invested in new electric metal melting equipment.
Airtours and Scapa received cheques for £1,000 and trophies and Wolstenholme Rink received a plaque at the awards presentation which was held at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton.
