TWIN sisters on the eve of their 16th birthday were among six passengers injured when a bus was involved in a collision with a car in Burnley.

Nicole and Cassandra Williams were on their way home from Burnley to Mount Lane, Cliviger, on Saturday, on a Yorkshire Rider bus when it was involved in the accident in Brunshaw Road, Burnley.

Linda Sykes, 40, of Palace House Road, Hebden Bridge, was detained in Burnley General Hospital with head injuries and concussion and was today said to be "comfortable."

Also hurt were Christopher McCord, eight, of Glen View Road, Todmorden, who had a slight head injury and his mum, Lesley who had neck and back strains.

Three-year-old Juliette Stroubell of Meadow Street, Todmorden, suffered bruising around the right eye. The accident happened at 5.05pm near the junction with Brownside Road and involved a BMW 518 driven by Pauline Precious, 46, of Copperfield Close, Worsthorne.

The double decker bus driven by Robert Stevenson-Shanks, 50, of Eagle Street, Todmorden.

Neither driver was hurt.

Others received treatment at the scene including the twins who complained of pain in the shoulders.

They recovered to celebrate their birthday yesterday. .

The bus was damaged to the front and the car to the rear.
