CHILDREN at Longridge Grant Maintained Primary School have taken part in the burial of a time capsule to mark the opening of a new supermarket in their town.

The burial of the capsule, at the new Safeway store in Inglewhite Road, marks the completion of building.

And pride of place in the capsule belongs to an Action Man and Barbie Doll!

The youngsters collected numerous items for the capsule and vowed to be there when it is unearthed 30 years from now.

Items included pens, pencils, popular toys, a map of Longridge, a roll call of pupils and staff, newspapers, photographs of cars and current methods of transport and a letter from head teacher Richard Leighton.

The pupils also performed a play of how they imagined life would be 30 years from now for civic dignitaries and Safeway representatives before the burial ceremony.

A plaque in the wall of the new supermarket marks the spot where the capsule has been buried.
