A TRADE group which represents more than 130 local aerospace firms is heading Down Under to fly the flag for East Lancashire.

The Nelson-based Consortium of Lancashire Aerospace is sending a delegation to the Australian International Airshow later this month to promote the products and services of local firms.

It is the first time the CLA has taken part in the exhibition, the biggest air show in the Southern Hemisphere.

"With aerospace now a truly global market it is essential that both the consortium and our members are in line with the latest trends and identify potential new areas of business," said Mike Clifford, chief executive of the CLA.

Taking part in the show - the furthest the CLA has travelled - has been a major logistical operation with many items needing to be shipped last year to arrive in time.

The Consortium stand - part of the UK presence backed by the DTI and the European Regional Development Fund - will include Hurel-Dubois of Burnley, Euravia Engineering and Supply of Kelbrook and Weston of Foulridge.
