POLICE in Burnley have released video stills of a hit and run accident in which a woman suffered serious injuries.

They are appealing for motorists seen in the shots or anyone else who can help to come forward.

The pictures show a burgundy Ford Sierra B305XUW, mounting the pavement in Brunshaw Road, Burnley.

Bridgette Daley, 62, of Brandwood Road, Burnley, was just setting to go into town shopping when she was struck from behind.

She suffered a double leg fracture and serious cuts to the head. She is recovering on a ward at Burnley General Hospital but hopes to be allowed home next week.

PC David Horsfield said: "We are appealing for information about the accident.

"Mrs Daley is beginning to make a recovery. Her injuries were serious. It could have been anyone's mother or wife who happened to be the innocent victim.''

The accident happened at about 10.30am on Wednesday, February 3, close to the main entrance to Burnley Football Club. Police say public response to their appeals for information has been good but that they still need more information.

Sgt Eric Marshall said: "We require evidence as to who the driver was on that day and at the time of the accident.''

An 18-year-old local man appeared in court at Burnley yesterday. He pleaded guilty to taking the car without consent and using it without a licence or insurance. Sentence was adjourned for reports and he was allowed conditional bail.
