ACCRINGTON Stanley boss Wayne Harrison has snapped up experienced defender Paul Bottomley in a bid to boost his side's battle against the drop.

The veteran defender, who played at Wembley in the final of the FA Vase with Guiseley, has joined the Reds in a four-figure deal from UniBond First Division outfit Harrogate Town.

Bottomley was an instrumental figure in Guiseley's rise through the semi-professional ranks, where he played under current Stanley assistant Gordon Rayner, before signing for Whitby at the start of this season.

He will make his debut in Saturday's game at promotion-chasing Gateshead.

"Paul's a good player and he will bring some much-needed experience to the squad," said Harrison, who has been tracking Bottomley for several weeks.

Colne are in North Western Trains League Second Division action tonight when they entertain high-flying Abbey Hey at Holt House (kick off 7.30pm).
