STAN Ternent faces another tactical poser as he bids to become the first Burnley manager to lead his side to victory at Wycombe.

The Clarets have alternated between 4-4-2, 5-3-2 and 3-5-2 line-ups this season and, when chasing games, have also played with three up front.

Having started with three central defenders and two wing-backs last Saturday, Ternent changed his hand at half-time to switch to a flat back four. It's that formation that has brought Burnley most success in recent games but Ternent has been an advocate of the sweeper system in the past and, with Glen Little unavailable to provide width on the right flank, it's sure to figure in his thinking again.

Wycombe will almost certainly play 5-3-2 with ex-Burnley full-back Chris Vinnicombe playing on the left-hand side of their defence. Manager Lawrie Sanchez has Paul McCarthy and Steve Brown available again after suspension and Brown may replace John Cornforth in midfield.

And he also has one or two options up front as Wycombe, joint bottom of the Second Division, look for their first win of the year.

Germaine McSporran, Manchester-born of a West Indian father and Scots mother, is back in the squad after a mid-week run-out in the county cup when Wycombe beat Marlow 2-0.

The former Oxford City striker, who was given a trial by Arsenal but not taken on at Highbury, made a big impact when breaking into the first-team at Adams Park and hitting the target three times before a knee injury forced him out.

But he may have to start on the bench alongside Mark Stallard with Andrew Baird continuing up front with Keith Scott.
