LEIGH is one of seven designated flood zone regions which will be put on alert next week.
On Thursday the Environment Agency will issue a mock flood warning to test communication links.
Warnings will be issued to any homes and workplaces which are registered with the Agency through and automatic voice messaging system which sends a telephone message to properties at risk from flooding.
Simon Heckle, for the Environment Agency, said: "We are always working to ensure people living in flood zones are given the right information at the right time. These exercises are an important part of that ongoing work."
Anyone who lives in a flood risk zone and wants to register their details should contact Simon Heckle or Mike Fraser on 01925 840000.
