A PRESTON pensioner living in a congested Moor Park street has hailed plans to stop rat-run traffic travelling at 'high speed' outside his home.

Delighted Arthur Grey, of St Thomas Road, warned: "Something needs to be done before someone gets killed."

He added: "They need to either close off the road or do something else to stop the cars coming up and down the street at 50 or 60mph and using it like a rat-run."

The battle to reduce the traffic flow on St Thomas Road follows a barrage of complaints by residents' to stop motorists using the street as a cut-through between Garstang Road and Deepdale Road.

Last year the angry householders lodged a 49-name petition with Preston Council highways chiefs in a bid to get the matter resolved.

After inspecting the site council officers to up-held the residents' complaint and have now requested county council funding to something done.

Labour councillors Mick Moulding and Frank De Molfetta, pictured left and right with residents, have supported the residents' fight from the start of their campaign last year.

Coun Molfetta said: "I look forward to the final decision from county council officers following the application from the council here in Preston."

Coun Moulding added: "I am delighted that something is going to be done for the residents' on St Thomas Road.

"I would like to see them close the road off somewhere but we will leave it in the hands of the experts to decide what is best for all concerned."
