THE show will go on - at least for now - after a new temporary venue was found for the premier event on Bury's farming calendar.
Months of searching has paid off for Bury Agricultural Society which this week finally found a ground to host its 58th annual show.
Bury Council has said organisers can use Goshen Fields off Manchester Road, Bury for this year's event.
Secretary Miss Elizabeth Forrest explained: "The future of the show was in grave doubt because we could not find anywhere to hold it.
"We even thought that last year's show would be the last one we would ever stage."
Castlecroft Showground has hosted the show in recent years. But the land was sold to developers after last year's event.
The show is one of the biggest fund-raising events held in Bury and attracts thousands of people and hundreds of exhibitors every year.
But organisers will face more problems in the run up to the 2000 show, when they will once again be homeless.
Miss Forrest added: "The council have been very supportive in trying to help us find a new showground. We are very grateful for all their help and very pleased with the venue.
"We are still looking for a more permanent home, but at least the show will go on this year."
