REGARDING the letter from E Sanderson concerning the prostitutes in the Fletcher Rd area of the town, I would like to point out that if the UK was to adopt the same attitude towards sex as our European partners instead of insisting on still living in the narrow minded Victorian way, then there would be no need for these women to be hanging around in dark streets .

Go to Amsterdam and you can see them sitting in the warmth and safety of their "shop" waiting for customers and it is all perfectly LEGAL.

The Dutch people are not offended by this and they do what we should all do with a lot of things - if you don't like it, don't go there, don't watch it etc.

Don't go around throwing your hands up in horror. I am in full agreement with stopping these ladies hanging around our streets at night but only because it is not safe for them to do so. And where else can they go?

I am certain that the police in Preston and in all other cities in the UK have got far more important things to deal with than chasing a few prostitutes.

Make it legal for God's sake. They are doing no one any harm. Let them set up shop in their homes like the ladies of Amsterdam and other European cities.

Come on, let's drop once and for all these stupid Victorian attitudes that we have in the UK. The year 2000 is just around the corner.
