SHOPPERS who visited Poulton on Saturday (March 6) found themselves being asked to fight the plans to build a supermarket on the fringe of the town.

Wyre MP Hilton Dawson, who has been against the plans by Trinity Investment to build on the Station Road site from the outset, stepped up his campaign as a second revised application is due to be considered by Wyre's planning committee.

The first application is due to go to public inquiry in June.

Armed with posters and leaflets, Hilton and his team urged residents who are against the scheme to get their objections in as soon as possible, even if they already did so for the first application.

"This superstore will suck the life out of the town centre," he said. "We had a very good response on Saturday and I have no doubt that an overwhelming amount of people are against the proposed supermarket.

"Hopefully, these people will now make their voices heard."

Poulton is on Mr Dawson's agenda again tomorrow (March 12). He will meet with representatives of Wyre Borough Council to discuss the traffic in and around the town centre.

"This is a serious issue and we need a much better traffic plan for the area," he said. "Streets are congested or clogged with parked cars - some sort of residents parking is needed.

"I have been in touch with residents from sheltered housing and they find it difficult to get across the road.

"I am hoping to get together with chief executive Michael Brown and get things moving.
