CLARETS fans arrested on the day their team was thrashed 6-0 by Manchester City have appeared before Burnley magistrates.

The men, who all appeared separately, were arrested at Tuesday's match at Turf Moor.

Market stall holder Timothy Redman, 27, of Old Laund Street, Fence, was fined £50, with £40 costs, after admitting being drunk while trying to enter a designated sports ground. Carl Palmer, 23, a warehouse assistant, of Hinton Street, Arron Nightingale, 35, a laminator, of Selkirk Street, sales executive Paul Walsh, 32, of Snowden Street, and production worker Philip Smith, 22, of Redspar Road, all Burnley, all pleaded guilty to threatening words or behaviour.

Palmer, Nightingale and Smith were each conditionally discharged for 12 months, with £40 costs. Walsh was fined £180, with £40 costs.

Among those who denied threatening words or behaviour and were bailed were Karl Grace, 26, of Church Street, Craig Golding, 29, of Westwood Road, who also denied police assault, Vincent Gizzi, 34, of Kings Street, Harle Syke, and Christopher Egar, 26, of Gainsborough Avenue, all Burnley.

Egar must not enter Turf Moor during football matches.
