Port Vale Reserves 0 Burnley Reserves 2

BURNLEY Reserves stretched their unbeaten run to four games last night with a fine away win against a strong Port Vale line-up.

The Clarets dominated the first period with Danish trialist Jon Tveen Jensen leading the attack under the watchful eyes of the Clarets management team.

In fact, Jensen could have given the Clarets the lead as early as the fourth minute after turning well onto a Mark Ford through ball, but saw his shot whistle just wide of the post.

The Clarets took the lead on 11 minutes after a terrible goal kick fell to Ford who in turn set up Phil Eastwood to steer his shot past Kevin Pilkington in the Vale goal.

Jensen showed his pace on 33 minutes beating his marker to a long Mike Devenney through ball but, when through on the keeper, steered his shot wide of the target.

A minute later the Clarets increased their lead. Eastwood, fresh from a loan spell at Kettering, picked up the ball from Graham on the edge of the area before showing some neat touches beating two markers to fire past the keeper from six yards. Eastwood went agonisingly close to his hat trick two minutes before the interval steering a Ford cross just wide of the post.

Port Vale tried to get back into the game in the second period and Naylor spurned a free header on 55 minutes, heading straight into the arms of substitute goalkeeper Craig Mawson.

Tony Gougier wasted the Valiants' best chance of the game just over the hour mark after substitute Lee worked well down the right before crossing for the unmarked Rougier, but Vale's recent signing fired high over the bar.

The Clarets' only chance of a scrappy second period fell to Rune Vindheim who, after a long run into the Vale half, couldn't find the power in his shot to beat, Pilkington and the ex-Manchester United keeper easily saved at his feet.

Team: Kval (Mawson), Vindheim, Morgan, Ford, Heywood, Williamson, Maylett, Graham (Kelly), Jensen (Shandran), Eastwood, Devenney.
