ONCE again, the subject of area regeneration within Burnley appears in the news and once again, all the same old areas start bleating for more cash.

Some have had millions spent on them and have managed to bring themselves back down to their original condition in only a few years.

Spare a thought for the residents of Palace House, New Palace House and Woodbine estates, who have had next to nothing spent on their properties since they were built, despite the rents paid over the years.

An inspection of our estates would show no central heating in many properties, metal window frames and old stone sinks in others. The only reason our estates look as tidy as they do is purely through the efforts of the tenants.

If the housing sell-off goes ahead, we are still not guaranteed modernisation for years. It is time that councillors realised that the Burnley boundary does not end at Gannow Top.

Or is it because we have elected two Independent councillors to represent us instead of Labour that no money is spent on these estates?

To spend money on what are essentially privately-owned houses and shops at the expense of the tenants of this area is nothing short of disgraceful.
