MANAGERS don't come much more down to earth and honest than Atherton Colls' Alan Lord.

Following Thursday's 7-2 Floodlit Cup defeat at Clitheroe he said the scoreline did not give a true reflection of the game in that it flattered the winners.

Following Saturday's 6-0 defeat at Mossley he said: "Again it didn't reflect what had gone on. It should have been 9-0!

"We got battered and I feel sick. Our lads just weren't up for it. I gave them a serious talking to at half-time and I felt I'd made my point. But they went out there and proved me wrong."

ATHERTON LR boss Steve Cunningham was not happy. "If you so much as coughed near Paul Stewart you got booked," he moaned after the 4-1 defeat at Workington.

"We outplayed them for 45 minutes so I'm not in the least disappointed with the way my lads performed."

LR took the lead after only five minutes with a Steve Frith header.

Phil Hill's last-gasp wonder goal gave LR a 1-0 midweek win against Ramsbottom United.

He picked the ball up on the half-way line as a corner was cleared; taking it out wide left to the touchline, he spotted the keeper off his line and chipped home from 30 yards.

LEIGH Athletic romped to a 7-1 win against bottom club Burnley GSOB.

MoM Craig Little opened the scoring and Danny Wilson made it two before Little grabbed his second on half-time.

After the break Brett Lilley netted Leigh's fourth, Little completed his hat trick and Wilson his second before sub Anthony Walker rounded off the rout.

The U16s beat Breightmet United 6-1 with goals from MoM Higson 2, Phillips 2, Ackers and Parker.

The Youth team went down 3-2 at league leaders Rivington A. Goals from Urmston and Phillips.

LEIGH Borough beat Tyrewise (Liverpool) 2-1 with goals from Pennington and Lewis.
