WHALLEY TIGERS Under-10s 2

A GOOD solid all-round team performance in which keeper Aaron Catchpole made three great saves early on to keep Whalley in the game. Eventually Whalley got on top and deservedly took the lead with a fine goal by Maitland Steel just before the break.

In the second half Whalley continued to push forward with Sam Taylor and Donald Wharton controlling midfield and they were rewarded with another Steel goal to take the score 2-0. Ben Wright was named man of the match for Whalley and Bobby Westwood and Aaron Catchpole were outstanding at the back.

BLUE STAR 8 WHALLEY Under-12s 2

WHALLEY found themselves up against a strong wind and a very strong Blue Star team in the first half and went in 5-0 at the break. Kicking with the wind in the second half, Whalley began to get into the game and Jason Donahoe pulled a goal back for them before Blue Star made it six.

Ryan Rigby got another for Whalley, but the strength of Blue Star saw them run out 8-2 winners. Daniel Stevenson played well for Whalley and Martin Walton was their man of the match.

WEST END 3 WHALLEY Under-13s 1

A VERY disappointing performance by Whalley Under 13s in this their penultimate game of the season. To be fair Whalley were weakened by the holidays, but even so the players put in a very lacklustre performance, especially in the second half.

Whalley went 1-0 down after seven minutes when they yet again failed to clear a corner. Ben Thorpe equalised for Whalley after good work from Donald and Benson. West End scored twice more in three minutes leading up to half time. Whalley were very poor in the second half and West End deservedly took the points.

WHALLEY Under-14s 1 BARROWFORD CELTIC 3

WHALLEY battled really well in the first half against a very impressive Celtic side. Both teams played some good football and it was Celtic who opened the scoring midway through the half with a well-taken goal. Whalley were awarded a free kick 30 yards out just before the break and David Mercer hit a screamer into the top right hand corner to bring the villagers level.

Play flowed from end to end in the second half and both sides had chances to take the lead before a fine through ball sent the Celtic number nine away, who finished in style.

Whalley were rocked back a couple of minutes later when some fine interpassing saw Celtic increase their lead to make the points safe. Will Cross and James Hoare were outstanding for Whalley.

NEWCHURCH 1 WHALLEY Under-16s 1

NEWCHURCH started brightly and put Whalley under pressure for the first 15 minutes, but Walsh in goal and Stell at the back, held firm and gradually Whalley began to get on top. No score at half time and it was Whalley who started the brighter in the second half and they were rewarded when Sam Stell put Adam Stevenson away with a through ball and he finished in style to give the visitors the lead.

End to end stuff now and 10 minutes later Newchurch equalised with a crisp shot. Both teams went in search of the winner, but defences were now on top and a draw was a fair result.

Sam Stell was voted man of the match and Mick Walsh in goal was also outstanding for Whalley.
