"BANNER" headline has taken on a new meaning for the Bury Times Group.
To show its support for the town's ambitious "Sailing Into the Millennium" project, the Group has sponsored the siting of a high-profile publicity banner.
It is being hung at Bury Town Hall, above the Elizabethan Suite, and will help promote next year's Millennium project to link up with Woodbury in the USA.
The banner will hopefully act as a vital promotional tool and generate interest from potential participants and sponsors.
The "Sailing into the New Millennium" project is the idea of Shuttleworth builder Melvin Magnall. Next summer, he hopes to recreate the trans-Atlantic sea journey of Tottington Quaker Henry Wood who sailed to the USA in 1682 to escape religious persecution. He settled on the banks of the River Delaware and founded the town of Woodbury, which is in Gloucester County, New Jersey.
Mr Magnall is hopeful an 18th-century replica sailing vessel will be crewed by young people from the Bury area. And many other local people, representing a range of local organisations, will fly over to Woodbury to take part in a planned one-week sporting and cultural festival next summer.
The banner also publicises a Millennium hotline number for information about the project.
The recorded message, which provides contact points for anyone interested in taking part, has been narrated by local BBC GMR journalist, Jonathan Ali. The number is 253 6089.
