LEIGH ATHLETIC had to work hard as they beat Tarleton Corinthians 2-0 - their 15th league win in 16 outings.

They took time to settle, and were further disrupted when Danny Wilson was forced to retire after a heavy collision.

But Craig Little, with his 36th goal of the season, and Neil Sumner wrapped it up.

Sam Hammond was superb in the nets, Darren Barclay was sent off for his second bookable offence.

But Athletic bumped back to earth as they fell 5-3 at Rivington in the League Cup.

They paid the price for a pathetic opening in which they conceded three quick goals.

Richard Wilson pulled one back, but Rivvy turned up the heat again; late goals from Rob Lysons and Wilson proved little consolation.

Athletic U16s reached the Bolton Boys Federation Jubilee Cup Final with a thumping 3-0 win at AFC Bolton, their fourth straight away win in the competition.

Spectacular free kicks from Calland and MoM Danson set up the victory, Phillips making sure with the third.

LEIGH BOROUGH scored three wins in five days. They beat General Elliott 5-1 (Pickles, Lewis, Lumb, Pennington, Heapy), Tyrewise 1-0 (Lumb) and Knights 5-2 (Lewis 3, Pennington, Kniveton).

ATHERTON COLLS scored a thrilling 2-2 draw at St Helens Town.
