THE Co-op is pulling out of living and concentrating on eating and dying!

Co-operative retail Services has confirmed to The Journal that its Leigh Living department store in Leigh has been sold to property developers Miller Developments as part of a deal involving 40 Living stores.

Quality House, Bradshawgate store, which employs 39 staff, will continue to trade as usual over the next three months.

But if a new retail tenant isn't found, the town centre store could become an office block - or even demolished!

A spokesman for Miller Developments said some stores were being taken over by Primark but not Leigh. The store could stand empty after CRS pull out until a use is found.

"At the moment we are looking for retail tenants. If we can't find anyone we could look to letting it as an office block or knocking it down."

CRS has completely withdrawn from non-food retailing as a result of the Living chain sale together with its 12 Homeworld out of town stores.

Its activities will now focus on its Food and Funerals community retailing business which will still be represented in Leigh, Tyldesley and Hindley.
