POLICE were called to the house of a candidate in tomorrow's local electionsover an alleged threat.

Officers visited the home of Conservative Brian Lever, in Blackburn Road, Ribchester, after receiving a call at 2.30 yesterday afternoon..

Mr Lever, who is contesting Ribble Valley Council's Ribchester seat, said he called the police after threats were made against him by a man who claimed he had been assaulted.

Mr Lever said: "The police did come up but it wasn't the problem this person made it out to be.

"This guy made some threats to me and I called the police. There's nothing to it. He's trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.

"The police are quite happy with what happened. The man has got some damage, but he caused it himself."

Pc Peter Hodkinson said: "We dealt with an incident yesterday and we're quite happy the matter is finished. There were no arrests."
