IT'S not only Manchester United who are targeting European glory in the merry month of May.

The lads from Calder Vale RUFC are also hoping to triumph on the continent when 47 players and officials depart this weekend for a solid week of competitive rugby.

First stop for the group will be Belgium. They'll have two teams entered in an international 10-a-side tournament at Kituro, near Brussels. Vale are confident of improving on their 1994 achievement when they came third despite facing 24 teams from five different countries.

This year the Burnley team face even stronger opposition, one of which hails from the uncompromising ranks of the French Foreign Legion!

The party will then travel on to Holland where they face three further fixtures in the Amsterdam area - in 1994 the Burnley boys were undefeated - before returning home on Saturday, May 15.

The Burnley boys are extremely grateful for the tour attire and student sponsorship, etc, supplied by local businesses. These include: The Big Window, Humberstones Jewellers (Burnley), Warburtons Bakery, M Duerden Packaging, Norpol Plastics, Sequent Computer Systems, Hargreaves Transport, Leyshon Consultancy, P Harbour Plumbing, and First Class Child Care.
