BACUP Borough boss Brent Peters has backed Andrew Connolly's decision to bail out Rossendale United and believes it can only be good for football on both sides of the Valley.

Connolly joined forces with Peters at West View two months ago in a bid to make Borough a force again.

And the Church-based demolition expert has now decided to help out cash-strapped Dale as well after shareholders voted unanimously to accept his takeover proposals at an AGM last week.

But Peters has quashed any rumours that Connolly is about to withdraw his interest in Borough and claims the move can only be good for football on both sides of the Rossendale Valley.

"Since Andrew Connolly's investment in Bacup Borough, I have always been aware of his proposals in regard to Rossendale United's directors and shareholders.

"I've been fully supportive of those plans because it can only enhance the development of both sites at Dark Lane and West View and that can only be good for the future of football in both sides of the valley.

"In no way, shape or form will this have any detrimental effect on my plans for the future of Bacup Borough Football Club. "What is happening in terms of Andrew Connolly's investment in Rossendale United will not have any affect at all in terms of his investment into Bacup Borough.

"So Bacup fans have no need to worry because my plans remain the same as ever and that's to take this club forward both on and off the pitch."

Meanwhile, Borough's teenage sensation Nicky Taylor took the plaudits at the club's Player of the Year night at the weekend.

Taylor, who has attracted the attention of several League clubs this season, won the Young Player of the Year award and came within a couple of votes of beating Paul Lyons to the Player of the Year award.

Goalkeeper Adam Potts was the Manager's Player of the Year while Stuart Walters won the committee's vote.

Alex Binnie was voted reserve team player of the year and Liam Mulderigg won the reserve team manager's award.

Ex-Manchester City and England star David White presented the awards.
