MOTHER Georgina Shackleton appeared before Burnley Magistrates' Court today charged with wilful neglect of her 16-month-old twin children.

An order made under Section 39 of the Magistrates' Court Act last week at Burnley Magistrates' Court banned the identification of the mother and either child, one of which died.

But after representations made by assistant editor of the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, Nick Nunn, the bench decided to lift the order saying: "In view of the age of the surviving child and in the public interest there in no good reason to maintain a Section 39 order."

Shackleton, 23, of Sherwood Road, Blackburn, is alleged to have wilfully neglected Jack Shackleton in a manner to cause him unnecessary suffering or injury to health and a second identical charge against his brother Adam Shackleton. Both offences are alleged to have been committed before April 17 this year.

Jack was dead on arrival at Burnley General Hospital on April 17. Shackleton spoke only twice during the 19-minute hearing, to confirm her name and date of birth.

Conditional bail was extended until June 16 when committal proceedings will take place at Burnley Magistrates' Court.

Shackleton must not enter Burnley unless to attend court, see her solicitor, visit the family home on Bar Street, Burnley, accompanied by a police officer, or visit social services.

Glen Shackleton, 27, of Bar Street, Burnley, has been previously remanded in custody charged with the alleged murder of Jack and will appear at Preston High Court at a later date.
