WITHOUT wishing to monopolise your columns, may I clear briefly one or two points raised in S.M. Brown's adversarial response to my letter (last week's Mailbox re Chowbent School plan).

1. I was expressing a personal opinion, not representing a pressure group - which I am perfectly entitled to do (thank goodness), irrespective of the age of my family and whichever school they may or may not attend. As you S.M. Brown are free to do, irrespective of where you live.

2. The provision of a new school, which children may well deserve and the maintenance of much needed public open space, need not be mutually exclusive.

3. You S.M. Brown may well choose not to use the field, but other people do!

4. Certainly at some time there is litter and mess on the field, but the dogs you allege cause it must be pretty sophisticated to dine at McDonald's, drink strong lager and use condoms, which compose a large part of the litter.

Let's find a way to get a better school and keep valuable open space without the recourse to threats.
