A YOUNG cancer sufferer is on track to fight the disease.

James Dickinson, 19, from Lowton (pictured) is getting in shape for a major fund-raising event later in the year - Relay for Life Warrington.

Currently receiving treatment for skin cancer, James is organising one of many teams expected to enter the 24-hour fun-packed event on July 10-11, when teams will walk or run around Victoria Park athletics track in Warrington.

James' team will consist of his mum and dad, Gill and John, girlfriend Helen Balshaw, aunts, uncles and family friends, who have supported him during his illness.

He was diagnosed with cancer just over a year ago and has already undergone surgery and chemotherapy.

But that's not stopped him studying.

He is currently at Salford University, and last year he was named the Cancer Research Campaign's Student of the Year.

The aim of the event is to get as many teams as possible to raise as much money as possible.

James said: "I want to raise money for the Cancer Research Campaign to fund new cures. I've always had a positive attitude and that is what keeps me going."

The Cancer Research Campaign is Britain's leading cancer charity and funds about 700 research projects in the UK.

Relay for Life organiser Denise Morgan added: "James is an inspiration to everyone.

"If James can take part in this event, anyone can, and I want as many teams as possible taking part."

Anyone who wants to enter a team for the event should ring Denise Morgan at the Cancer Research Campaign on 0161 793 1313.
