CONDITIONS at a block of council flats have been slammed by a daughter of an elderly resident.

The woman, who does not wish to be named, wrote to the Star with a catalogue of complaints about the flats at Parr Mount Court, Fingerpost.

She claims security locks on doors rarely work, allowing people in off the street; that groups of children intimidate elderly residents at night; that some flats are damaged on a regular basis as a result of the security doors not working properly; and that the lift is often out of order.

The woman, whose mother is in her 70s, told the Star: "The lift is regularly out of order making it very difficult , if not impossible, for those with mobility problems to get out and about. It is vandalised on a regular basis and is covered in the most appalling graffiti I have ever seen.

"The residents of Parr Mount Court deserve a better service than this. The caretaker keeps the building beautifully clean and tidy, it's just a pity the rest of the services do not match."

A council spokesman said: "There was a problem with the lift which was immediately attended to once it was reported to us. However, it will also be the subject of further attention.

"For security reasons each resident is issued with special keys and instructions on how to operate the doors to avoid misuse. When doors are occasionally left open this can cause access to the flats and create potential security problems. One door didn't work but this was attended to when reported to us."
