PROBLEMS with poor TV reception in the shadow of Turf Moor should soon be a thing of the past.

Last year, Burnley FC installed a 'self-help' transposer to amplify the reception in the Fulledge area, after residents claimed building work at the ground had affected their reception from the main Pendle Forest transmitter.

But in February the club received a petition saying reception in the area was still poor and it transpired problems were due to the new digital broadcasts. Adjustments were carried out when the TV Transmitter Adjustment Programme (TV-TAP) and the club's contractors visited the site in early March.

In a statement the club says: "Complaints continued which appeared to be different in nature and, in an effort to try to resolve the problem, the club arranged for a local TV aerial contractor to carry out tests.

"The results of these tests indicated that to overcome the interference problem, the Turf Moor transmitter field strength had been turned down. At this point the club complained to the Independent Television Commission."

TV-TAP and the club's own contractors will re-visit the site and solve the problem. The statement added: "It should be noted this area of Burnley is not the best for TV reception and our transmitter licence covers a very small area. "It is very low-powered so the residents outside the target area should not expect all of their problems will be solved via this transmitter. We can only maintain the transmitter within the licence and target area for this the licence is held."

A spokesman for TV-TAP said there would be a technical meeting at Turf Moor, when it was hoped to find out what the problem is and whose responsibility it is.

He said: "Viewers can be reassured the problem will be sorted out."
