I RECENTLY read an article in the Citizen stating that "outraged residents on the Callon estate were up in arms at television ghetto claim".

I can only assume that these residents own their homes and are afraid that it will affect the value of their properties.

I have lived on the estate for more than two years and, from the very first day I moved onto it, there has not been one night when something has not been thrown through my windows.

I have had to call the police more than 15 times. The council has made numerous visits to board up my windows.

On one occasion the police had to stand guard over the council workers as a gang of local youths had thrown paint stripper over the workmen's van and were attempting to slash the tyres.

On several occasions the youths have piled newspapers at my back door and set fire to them.

Fortunately, I have only had to call out the fire brigade once - when youths put fireworks through my letterbox and I was unable to get up the stairs to my sleeping daughter.

I am too afraid to sit in my living room at night, and barricade the windows.

Obviously the council know what is happening.

But I think that their attitude is that if they ignore it and don't prosecute vandals, it means there are no vandals on the estate.

I have asked to be rehoused but they refused.

I am not from Preston myself but I have found the people warm and friendly.

That is why I am writing to your newspaper - so that you can warn your readers not to accept a house on the estate if they are offered it.

That is unless they are prepared to accept that they, too, may have to live behind barricaded windows.
