DETECTIVES investigating the firebomb planted at Crofters Fold, Heysham, say they have had a positive response after it appeared on Crimewatch.

Police say the public's response to the programme has opened up new avenues of investigation.

The firebomb was left at the back door of a postal worker's home in March this year.

Military bomb disposal experts dashed to the scene to make the device safe and forensic officers combed the premises.

Police also revealed that the family involved had received a similar, though smaller, device in the post last year.

They added that the firebomb could have caused "considerable damage " if it had gone off.

A police spokesman said: "We've had a positive response from the programme. It is obviously beneficial that we went on Crimewatch.

"We are now in the process of sifting through all the calls to process the good information."

The mystery bomber remains at large and anyone with any information is asked to contact Morecambe CID on 01524 63333.
