DETECTIVES are hunting a gang who ram-raided a supermarket.

The thieves drove a stolen car through an entrance at the Kwik Save store in Bury before stealing a large quantity of cigarettes.

The Vauxhall Astra car was left at the scene and it is believed the robbers escaped in another vehicle.

Police say the raiders struck at 10.50pm on Monday at the Derby Street store. Once inside, they attacked a tobacco kiosk before stealing 2,000 cigarettes.

The damaged Vauxhall, stolen earlier from Salford, was abandoned before the robbers escaped.

A police spokesman said: "At this stage, we don't have any details of the other car they probably used to escape in."

Detectives are as yet unable to say how many men took part in the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to ring Bury CID on 856 8150 or freephone CrimeStoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
