NEW bus services into Nelson were due to come into operation today as part of a £1million investment project to boost the town.
Pendle Council has negotiated with Border Buses to provide the new services to bring people from the edge of town and Burnley into the centre as part of a campaign to boost town centre trade.
Services 65, 68, 78 and 98 will use a new route with stops to allow people on and off in Every Street, Market Square and Manchester Road. Timetables for the services are available at Nelson bus station.
Colin Badminton, Pendle Council's transport engineer, said: "This new bus service will serve both the town centre shops and the new Morrison's supermarket and is part of our drive to regenerate Nelson.
"We are keen to encourage people to shop by bus rather than by car and to be loyal to their local town centre."
The new services are linked to a £1 million regeneration scheme which will include improvements to shops, traffic calming measures and new parking spaces.
