NEVER mind about the former Park Lee Hospital in Blackburn being sold dirt cheap (LET, May 20), residents in the area were not informed beforehand.

No thought was given to the hospice on the site having to put up with noise or to the old people being moved out like cattle.

Yet, they were the ones who paid every week out of their, in those days, meagre wages, to the Workers' Hospital Fund, which was for Park Lee. Darwen and Accrington people contributed as well.

Park Lee was just right for the old people coming out of hospital to convalesce there. But, of course, nowadays, most are treated as burdens. The powers that be forget they will be old in time.

Resident of Park Lee Road, Blackburn. (Name and address received).
