ROAD safety campaigner Anne Ravenhill is gearing up for a face-to-face meeting with transport minister Lord Whitty.

For seven years, Mrs Ravenhill of Burnley, has campaigned for compulsory motorway tuition for every newly qualified driver.

Support has been growing over the years with last year more than 100 MPs signing an early day motion on the issue.

The issue is again being discussed at a Department of Transport sub-committee tomorrow.

Mrs Ravenhill said: "Although I will not be able to give evidence to that meeting I know that motorway tuition for new drivers will be discussed."

The following day she will meet Lord Whitty to tell him about her Learn to Live campaign.

She said: "I consider this to be a significant step forward in my fight to make sure that all newly qualified drivers have to receive some form of motorway tuition."

Mrs Ravenhill underwent motorway tuition after passing her driving test.

She said: "The thought of driving on these roads without any training frightened me rigid. Over the next few months many people told me of their first experiences of driving on the motorways.

"Many said they had never driven on the motorway because they were scared to do so."

She says General Accident and RAC survey statistics back the campaign.
