GIRLS in a Burnley high school are keeping up with the news and developing their journalistic skills through our Super Story Search literacy project.

All 180 pupils in year nine at Walshaw High School are taking part in the scheme, which includes a daily delivery of our newspaper for every girl for three weeks.

The accompanying workbook sets out 30 different newspaper reading tasks for pupils to complete, plus a further 30 ideas for newspaper linked literacy projects.

A set of useful rewards encourages pupils to attain their reading targets and a heap of free books for every participating school to review is an added bonus.

English teacher at the school Paul Holmes has placed regular orders for the material over a number of years and is convinced of the value of the scheme in motivating pupils and fulfilling many criteria of the literacy strategy.
